Celebrate Summer Bahamian-style with Junkanoo

The Bahamian festival of Junkanoo is “the most elaborate festival of the islands” and one of the best ways to experience Bahamian culture according to the travel experts at Gadling.com. This year, you don’t have to wait for Christmas to celebrate! Junkanoo is so popular that it is also now taking place over the summer!

Take in this exciting Bahamian cultural experience with the Junkanoo Summer Festival on Freeport, Grand Bahama on July 7, 14 and 21. The festivities, which include art, culture, music and entertainers, will be held on Taino Beach from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

You definitely won’t want to miss the Junkanoo Rush-Out, where children and parade participants rush out in colorful costumes to the rhythmic blending of the sounds of goatskin drums, cowbells, bugles and whistles.

To make sure you don’t miss any of the action, the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism will be providing complimentary shuttle to and from the Junkanoo Summer Festival.
